Great story with a rugged hero who stepped out of my fantasies, but resilient Maddie was someone to admire, too. Even though Sam was the central focus, the tale had plenty of captivating family members and townsfolk. One thrilling incident after another ensured hours of fast-paced, action-packed, and satisfying reading. 4 stars.
