I'm in the mood for cowboys.

What better way to satisfy my craving for this sexy breed than to join a cattle drive with a group of greenhorns even if it's only for a few hours within the pages of a book? If your daydreams involve lassoing a cowboy of your own while enjoying an outdoor adventure that include horses, a bunch of steers, and wide open spaces like in the frontier days, then I'd say you'd fulfill your fantasy in Kiss Me by Susan Mallery.

Big-hearted, city girl Phoebe meets sexy cowboy Zane on his turf and discovers that the lifestyle is mighty fine. She seems to be the only one who understands the quiet, lonely man beneath the tough exterior--still waters and all that.
Their sexual chemistry sparked the minute they met and didn't let up the entire time so there's a lot of building awareness between them to savor. I loved every bit of it.

I really liked that this was a straight up romance; no major roadblocks to keep the couple apart or vacillating between like and dislike. Phoebe had a serious career situation to deal with while Zane had childhood experiences that continued to haunt him in adulthood, however, these issues just made them more real, which was immensely appealing.

Speaking of appealing characters, the ensemble, with the various reasons that brought everyone together for a week, was an entertaining group that nicely complimented Phoebe and Zane's romance. And the reasons for the cattle drive in the first place? Read the book and find out how far out funny that was. What a hoot!

After the steady pace throughout the story, the swift and too neat ending was unexpected. Still, a romantic moment in the midst of it made things right. Kiss Me was full of surprises, and I relished them all. What a great adventure! Highly recommended at 4.5 stars.
