I started reading Anne McCaffrey's science fiction as a teen and loved it. I ran across this and was surprised that it was not science fiction or fantasy and so quite a departure from her normal books. However, I really liked it. It has much more adult themes than her sci fi novels- dealing with a family where the mother is stiff, formal, and unloving and how they react when a loving female enters their lives.
