Hannah Setterington, reitred governess, has become a paid companion to an elderly lady in the country. Upon her midnight arrival the place looks gloomy and all the servants are whispering about the master-his strange moodiness and chilling coldness only fuel the rumor that he killed his wife. With her back straight, Hannah walks right into the baron's den and is instantly surprised. Recognizing his strong shoulders from behind, she knows that hi has not killed his wife-he is completely innocent. Hannah knows because she is his wife.
