Funny and silly. Plot is like all Sand's historic romance (not so hard to figure out murder attempts) but still worth the read if you just want something light to laugh at.
I think this was her first historic romance and it shows. I find Amaury a little too much of a sore bear but Emmalene is delightful. Not as funny as her later books but I liked it.
