This is the second book written by this author. I'll start out by saying that you really should read the first book, A Innocent Client, before reading this one. By doing so, you will get the "background" of the characters.
This story starts out with a gruesome murder of a family. A second murder is quick to follow. The book has a lot of violence and some rather strong language. The murderers are a group satan worshipers, led my a female. Some of the scenes are pretty graphic. The presecutor is a former defense attorney trying to "atone" for defending those he knew were guilty. He has his own problems, including a sister who has had her own brushes with the law. His sister has her problems with drugs and alcohol and has also spent time in jail. His wife is fighting breast cancer. A quick read.
