Just when I think Caine must be close to running out of ideas, she comes up with another doozy of a plot. Joanne's encounter with the Oracles and the mad djinn Ashan has left her with no memory. It's a teensy inconvenience when the Wardens need her Weather powers to help them contain the maelstrom that has been unleashed all over the world, as she has no idea how to use them - and even more so when it is discovered she has acquired the powers of Fire and Earth as well, making her only the second Warden ever to have a full deck. But then a Demon who has stolen her memories takes her form, and now she is on the run, chased by the Wardens who have been taken in by the demon. She's being helped by a djinn who wants to take her back to Ashan, the one who ripped her memories from her in the first place. Of course, she goes along as she doesn't remember why this would be a really bad idea...
Caine is really having fun with her characters and her world, and she takes her readers on a bad-ass, exciting and fun ride. There's a more serious feel to this story, as the various factions among both djinn and human are forced to come together if they want to save their world. The characters too are growing richer, and I'm really looking forward to the next book.
