Series seems to be getting lame with age. The author likes to write about "rules" in magic yet there are definitely some issues with paradox, like kids being born in one world, yet being aborted in another. With those kinds of inconsistencies, it makes for a poorly planned out "alternate universe" and just leaves room open for too many obvious "butterfly effects".
