It was really hard for me to rate this book because I appreciated the issues of class, colonization, gender and sense of self that it raised. I'm not a regular reader of sci-fi and chose this book for our book group that is used to more traditional literary fiction. Most did not make it past page 40. I think it's a big stretch for people not used to alien names and multiple consciousness. I think if you are already a sci-fi fan you will probably very much enjoy this multiple award winner. I think if you are not a sci-fi reader you probably need a more gradual introduction to the genre.
