Poignant and witty, melancholy and frank, after Fences this is my favorite of Wilsons plays. Pittsburgh, 1969. The scene: Memphis Lees restaurant where life goes on and two trains run daily, waiting to take him back to his roots. Meanwhile death seems to be the only escape. Characters long for a better life yet seem to do everything that they can to hinder their chances.
