This is a captivating story of a planet of women who live peacefully and entirely in harmony with their ocean world of Shora. War and killing are entirely foreign concepts to Shorans until the powers that be in their universe decide that they need to be ruled. The tale is tragic as soldiers, or "death-hasteners' descend on the planet to subdue these utterly peaceful people. The only part that did not ring true for me was the behavior if Raelgar, the leader of the occupying armed force from Valedor on Shora. He seemed more of a male stereotype than a character I could believe. In all of his experiences, he learned almost nothing. The book has been on my TBR pile for quite a few years, and it took me a couple of chapters to really get into it, but then I was hooked. The author's skill at character development and world-building is exceptional and made this a very special story that will stay with me. Recommended!
