Well-researched, disturbing account of the life of the eldest Kennedy daughter, who was probably dyslexic, and was mildly mentally retarded. After years in special schools and Catholic institutions, her father had her lobotomized, a new, controversial treatment at the time (early 1940's). She had been able to read, write, dance, swim, etc., and was a beloved sister and friend who lived on a 10-year old level. But she couldn't 'keep up' with the Kennedy ideal of a quick-witted, athletic girl. After the operation in her 20's, she was institutionalized for over 60 years, with mobility issues, limited speech, and fewer abilities. One of the saddest accounts I've ever read; do not read if you're easily depressed. Or a Kennedy family fan.
