This is not a new idea. The classical model of education is a tried and true method. I wish we could go back to it altogether. This book explains with very clear understanding of how we learn. It's based on the "Dorothy Sayers Essay: The Lost Tools Of Learning" Look that up as well. When we are young we are good at memorizing and drill work. As we transition from the grammar stage to middle school stage we begin to process all that foundational info. then we find ourselves at the Rhetoric stage that then learns how to present ideas, emotions, arguments and debates. It has been put into a modern day image this way. The grammar stage is the the computer. The dialectic stage is the processor. The rhetoric stage is the printer. Read Ps 24:3 and you find the trivium, the 3 roads to learning KNOWLEDGE, UNDERSTANDING AND WISDOM.
