This is one of my favorite series. Jaycee is a Leopard shifter and a fierce warrior. Dimitri is a rare red wolf shifter. Dimitri has made his mate-claim to Jaycee but she is not sure if she will accept though she cannot stand the thought of him with anyone else. They have grown up together and are best friends and have never worn collars (so the ones they have are fake).

The story captured my attention immediately, the action was at the fight club but it wasn't long before it started to lose me. Dimitri was very definite about wanting Jaycee but she was so vague and juvenile, panting after Dimitri's great body, it was hard to picture her as an elite tracker. The action didn't pick up again for another 120 pages and then very slowly. Probably could have dropped 30 or more pages from the book just by eliminating Jaycee's descriptions of Dimitri's fine body.

Hang in there, it does get better.

Finally got some action after the pair infiltrated a group of shifters with a cult-like leader. Jaycee shows her warrior side when she goes after Dimitri who was hauled off by the Fae. That's when Dylan, Tiger and Zander come charging to the rescue and practically nonstop action to the end.

Another supernatural creature is involved, Ben is a goblin and a very interesting character. And of course there was the sentient house, one of the best parts of the story. Another alpha named Angus shows up and new kinds of Fae are introduced so lots of interesting stories for the future.

Not the best of the series and definitely not a stand-alone story but it does advance the conflict between the Fae and the shifters.
