When wealthy hotel owner Harry Rutledge meets Poppy Hathaway, he knows she is the woman for him. But Poppy is in love with Michael Bayning and is just waiting for him to tell his father that they wish to marry. Harry's manipulations put a quick end to that relationship. Soon Poppy is compromised by Harry and he proposes. Her family is not happy, but tell her it is her choice if she wants to marry Harry. Although Harry calls himself a "villain", his feelings for Poppy are apparent to everyone but himself.
Another winner from Lisa Kleypas. When the book begins, we don't know a lot about Poppy Hathaway. She was a secondary character in the series, but we never got a clear picture of her. Turns out she is beautiful and brainy. She's nice to everyone and doesn't lie. Sounds kind of boring to me, but I liked her. Harry is my kind of hero. He is a slightly tortured guy who has never had anyone to love him. He is also a self-made millionaire who can buy anything he wants. What he wants is Poppy. And, he'll do anything to get her.
I loved the story. There were no real surprises, but it moved along quickly. The secondary characters at the hotel were fun, and the Hathaway family is always entertaining. There were a couple little scenes between Leo Hathaway and Miss Marks that show their sizzling chemistry. I'm looking forward to their book. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
