I really didn't care for how the way Julie whined about how the oldest daughter didn't take to her instantly. After the girl finally did warm up to the woman, for some reason she was still claiming the girl hated her. Her husband was a total control freak. He blew up at the least little things. He always said Julie didn't know what was best for his children because she had never been a mother. I thought this was completely insensitive of him, considering he is suppose to be this caring doctor figure to the town, and he knows she gave birth to a still born. By the end of the book I didn't care what the reason behind his behavior was.
I really liked the character Riley, which is Tom's younger brother. Riley is very laid back, and mellow. For a minute I believed he and Julie may start an affair because she was always telling him her problems. She confided in him even during the times she didn't trust him. The aunt in the story is also another favorite of mine.
Overall, if you can get passed Julie's whiny nature, and Tom's controlling ways then you will enjoy the book. I enjoyed it myself, even if I was wanting Julie to cheat on her husband or just pack her bags. In the end, we discover why everyone acts the way they do, and everything works itself out, which tends to happen in the magical world of books.
