This story is one of Laurell K. Hamilton's shortest story I've read. It's not her usual Anita Blake thriller that leaves you hanging by the seat of your pants and unable to put the book down. It's a story that helps you get to know a few of the characters a little more, while leaving out 90% of the characters you've grown to love. This book only starred Nathaniel, Jason, J.J., Jade and Anita. The characters mentioned in this book were Jean-Claude, Richard, and Asher.
This book helps us get to know some of the characters and how they feel about being in a polyamorous relashionship, being bi-sexual and needing BDSM and pain with the pleasure sex can bring. It's hard to describe to a person who likes straight vanilla sex and in this book Anita attempts to enlighten J.J., Jason's love and help her make sense of it. I feel like she did a rather good job in trying to explain it, even I haven't been able to explain it to other's who like vanilla. It's a hard topic to explain to those who cannot fathom how pain can be a switch that makes a person go from getting in the mood to ready to cum because of the pain given in the right places at the right time.
Equally Anita seems to need help with her relationship with Jade. J.J. being bisexual tries to help Anita and Jade work through some of their problems in bed. With the help of Nathaniel, Jason and J.J. it turns out to be a weekend to remember.
Again this is a short read with no usual thriller or fight scenes that we've come to love about the Anita Blake books. The story is good, but it revolves around sex, so if you like something with more substance then this book is not for you. I was a bit disappointed because I was expecting a little more. Still it's a Laurell K. Hamilton book with the Anita Blake characters so hay you can't really go wrong....... Can't wait for her next book "Dead Ice".........
