While her art detective husband, Max Bittersohn chases Watteaus in Argentina, Sarah Kelling lunches with the feuding eccentrics of the Wilkins private museum. Then feisty administrator -- and talented art forger -- Dolores Tawne is found dead with a hole in her head the size of an antique hatpin. To Sarah's bewilderment, the steely weapon is sent special delivery to the Bittersohn Detective Agency. Now stuck with the case, Sarah is doubly dumbfounded to find herself the executrix of poor Dolores' meager estate and morbid last wishes.

With the help of her quirky actor friend Charles and a key to the victim's safe deposit box, Sarah may unlock the murder. But when an obituary in the Boston Globe announces her own demise, Sarah had better exhibit some deft detecting fast. A twisted scheme is closing in -- and Sarah is its next target.
