Ah, now *this* is the Liz Carlyle I know & love! Ever so much better than her "Never Lie to a Lady".
This tale holds your attention from start to finish. Although it's rather dark, it's never oppressive, and the irrepressible Kemble adds enough levity to balance it all beautifully.
The author has a true talent for visualization and although these characters have damaged souls, she never presents them as weak or cruel. They are very charismatic and appealing.
