Big Red and Old Red really take their licks here. Getting shot in the last book was nothing compared to what happens to them now. Still, the brothers bond even more to each other in solving this mystery, which is loaded with outlaws, scam artists, drunk legends, coffins, a lovely lady, hobos, runaway trains, etc. And all of it takes place in just a couple of days.

If this had been a Sherlock Holmes adventure, he would have said, "Watson, bring your Army revolver."
