I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is not a "happy" or "light" book. There are some unusual characters who do inexplicable things. At the center of the story, however, is a character -- Talmadge -- who is true to himself and his life. Perhaps he doesn't make choices the reader would prefer he make, but he is, in essence, a good man. There is a moodiness to this book that I imagine some readers wouldn't like and the ending isn't tied up with a pretty bow. With that said I enjoyed the setting, the characters, and the writing. I would recommend this to someone who wants to read a book to think about.
