This book is not so much a story but is more like a history book. If you're looking for a fast-paced, suspenseful rendering of Jack the Ripper, perhaps this is not a book for you. But if you don't mind the more left-brained methodology of trudging through interesting (although dry) accounts of police reports, witness testimony, conspiracy theories, and 19th century criminology, then this is really a very good book.

Only in the end will you find a chapter or two based more on opinion where the author picks apart different Ripper suspects and proposes who he believes the Ripper was most likely to be.
