I hesitated to start reading this book at the time I did because I had just finished reading Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice and I just couldn't imagine getting into a story so widely different than the one I'd just finished, but I'm glad I read it because it is a stunning story about real people and how awful some people are for the stupidest, most backward, ignorant reasons one could imagine. It evokes almost every emotion you could imagine and I couldn't wait to read the next word.
