I thought that this one was a good read, a little better than the first book in the series. It's definitely gotten some better humor in it and there several times I burst out laughing.
Even though I liked the story, sometimes I do think that Emerald is a moron. Quite often it takes her awhile to realize the obvious. With all the bad luck that she had in this story, I don't think it took the jade dragon to do anything to increase it. I find it especially true with the way she manages to tick off people who then find ways of making her life miserable. I also don't understand, this being a paranormal story and all, that with spells and abilities at her disposal that seem to work, why she doesn't do a better job of protecting herself with them.
It was nice to see that the love triangle ended. I really like Joe's character. He's a mature, understanding and funny guy who I hope to see more of in future stories. (Plus, what girl doesn't like a guy in uniform?) Andrew was just annoying, as usual, with his drama and need for attention all the time.
I'm definitely starting to like this series more, even if it has plot-hole issues and gets ridiculous at times. Can't explain why, but I think I'm hooked.
