Widow Lovering is fleeing from her father who is trying to force her into another wedding to line the family coffers; she meets Lord Graystock -assumes he is a stable hand who can't control his horse (due to his clothes) and sparks fly. About the time he decides to marry her she decides to seek a marriage proposal from a childhood sweatheart to save herself from her fathers machinations.
