The last Andy Carpenter novel I read was 'SILENT BITE' and I was really disappointed in it. But this book reinstates my faith in David Rosenfelt to write a winning book. The wise-cracks are never-ending and the cast of characters is without the other (new characters) of Rosenfelt's other two series. Hike (Andy's assistant attorney) is at his gloomy best and Edna does nothing, as usual.
This story starts with all the cards stacked against Brian Atkins. He's about to be released from prison for embezzlement (through assured early parole from a minimum-security prison) when he escapes with a dog (only David Rosenfelt could get a dog to help an ex-con escape from prison). The next time he's seen, he is walking out of the house that holds two stabbed bodies (Brian's wife and his business partner). How Andy inherits the case is better than usual (Andy wants to retire, life doesn't agree).
Andy has more than one close call with death because he is interrupting the slick work of cyber-criminals and mobsters. The whole story is interesting because Andy realizes that he must name the murderer/embezzlement folks in order to get his client off. I read most of the night because I couldn't put the novel down. Great story and great complications in the plot.
Andy Carpenter Series
13. Who Let the Dog Out? (2015)
** 14. Outfoxed (2016)
15. The Twelve Dogs of Christmas(2016)
16. Collared (2017)
