27th in the Prey series, not that it matters for your reading pleasure. Davenport is now a US Marshal with carte blanche to pick his own cases, thanks to saving the life of an important politician. He goes after a guy who robbed a drug cartel's cash house in Biloxi, killing 5 people including a 6-year-old girl. But the cartel wants its money back and they've sent hunters too. With Davenport out of Minnesota the usual cast of extras is absent, looks like Sandford might be shuffling in new characters. I did like that he put Davenport into a new environment where he isn't the big man on campus, but I didn't like the very last page - Davenport's new boss is told by the VIP politicians to never, ever tell him what to do. A fun fantasy in the book because we know he's on the side of the angels, but made me cringe nonetheless. Still, another action-packed book, excellent airplane or beach reading.
