No one can tie characters to atmosphere & setting like Denys does. In this book (and her other, The Flesh and the Devil), her hero and heroine are tied into the period and it all seems RIGHT - even when your modern romance reader mind is thinking it's scary and crazy.
This is a beautifully written book about a horrible hero and his lovely (and eventually willing) object of obsession.
I'd love to know whatever happened to Denys. Her talent for the gorgeously grotesque is sorely missed.
