Story of a sculptress who follows her doctor husband to France during WWI where she works in a clinic making reconstructive masks for soldiers with face and jaw wounds. Hoping to gain acceptance in the male world of sculpture, she soon concentrates more on the lifelike masks that can restore wounded men to a more normal life.
