Reading a Karen Ranney book is either a hit or a miss with me. Some of her other books haven't impressed me much so I was a little worried before I bought this one. I'm so glad I did. I loved it!

The beginning of the story was a little slow for me but it quickly picked up and soon I was on an adventure that took me to Scotland. *sigh* Wish I could go there in real life but for now I'll settle for the vivid imagination in my mind.

Virginia Traylor is the heroine. She grows up a lot by the ending of the book. I liked her. She wasn't whiny or doing a lot of complaining some heroines do. Ms. Ranney writes Virginia's character well. You can't help but like her.

Macrath Sinclair is so yummy. I really loved this character. He's realistic and engaging. One of my favorite heroes this year.

"You are so beautiful," she said, her head bowed to study him.

She was the beautiful one, her cheeks flushed pink, her hair flowing around her shoulders.

"Stay with me," he said softly against her temple. He kissed her there, noting her shiver.

"Stay with me," he said again. "Stay at Drumvagen." He hadn't expected to be this direct. But once he said the words, he smiled into her face. "Don't be Countess of Barrett," he said. "Be the American Virginia Anderson."

If you love a good Scottish romance, make sure you pick this one up. I hope you love it as much as I do.
