Interesting story about efforts to solicit donated books, followed by a government-funded program, to have lightweight, portable books printed in the millions and distributed to bored, lonely, scared U.S. military members in service and in hospitals. These books took the soldiers/sailors minds off their troubles for a while, and helped foster a love of reading, even among civilian-draftees who had read newspapers, magazines, etc., but who had had little time to read novels, histories, etc.
