The storyline about a family and the wife's friend leaving NYC for Kansas was interesting. Being a wagon train story, there are disasters and tragedy, as it seems to be in these type of stories. I felt sorry for Tarsie, who was happy to go along but ended up caring for her friend and family, far beyond what she had imagined. I did wonder that the husband's gambling debts from New York (one of the reasons the family left) weren't mentioned later in the book, but he must have gotten far enough away from the people looking for him.
I like Kim Vogel Sawyer's writing and this was a solid story with a mostly happy ending.
