Novel set in England during the Victorian Era involving five interrelated families - some high born, others not. Characters abound from all classes, with enormous wealth to some existing in abject poverty. Narrative involves good vs evil, family mysteries, betrayals, hazards, misadventures, aliases, crooked dealings, kidnappings, and narrow escapes. It took a while to get into the story, but after less than 100 pages I was hooked. This story is like Charles Dickens on steroids. A young man determines that he may be in danger as heir to an estate/fortune coveted by others. Book includes multiple maps, charts of family trees, and most helpful, a listing at the end of the book of all character names.
