Wilma Mabry's quiet life as a widow, piano teacher, and mother to an estranged daughter is turned upside-down when the daughter (and granddaughter) turn up out of the blue, followed a day later by her son-in-law, and immediately thereafter by the news that someone has shot and killed one of their small town's deputy sheriffs. Not quite a cozy, and not quite a novel of Southern manners, though it has components of both.
