I had heard about this series from my niece who is a freshman in college. She didn't give much detail, but knowing my love of The Hunger Games Series, mentioned the Uglies Trilogy (I don't know why it's a trilogy when there are 4 books...). I am enthralled with young adult literature and decided to check it out. The writing style reminds me of Stephenie Meyer - easy to read, not a lot of substance. I'm not saying that's a bad thing at all - some books are better that way. As the story begins, I would have preferred more background story as to why they are living the way they are and how they got this dystopian society to work. Today's society tends to find itself focused on appearance which has quite a lot of affect on people whether we admit it or not and often aids in decisions whether subconsciously or consciously. The goal of the society in this book is to elimate this problem and make everyone societally "pretty" at age 16. As one could guess, not everything is as good as it seems, secrets are revealed, rebellion is started, etc. It took me quite a while, probably half the book to find myself invested in the characters to the point where I cared what happened to them and wanted to know what was going to happen next. By the end of the book, I couldn't put it down, and of course, the ending left me wanting more!
