This is the next installment of Jodi Thomas' five-part series about Ransom Canyon. Please note: WINTER'S CAMP (part 2) is a short story of 50 pages only available (presently) on Kindle. As that story takes place in 1872, it is obviously a prequel to the current group of contemporary stories.
Many of the characters from the initial book have returned. Again, there are three stories interwoven into the current tale of Crossroads, TX. Lucas Reyes and his girl friend, Lauren Brigman, return. She has made it to Texas Tech University to be with Lucas but they spend little time together. Before long, the reader finds out why this is the case.
The main thread is about Angela Harold and starts in Florida. Her father has died under suspicious circumstances and she finds a note from him warning her to disappear as quickly as possible. When she finds $50,000 in her bank account, she realizes her father had been planning this escape for some time. Angela quietly accepts a job in Texas and, using the skills she's learned on cop shows, tries to hide her trail.
She arrives in Crossroads to take over the closed local historical museum. Isolated and lonely Angela is charmed by the group of unusual citizens she meets. It doesn't take long for someone to find Angela's hiding place and things start to happen. The kindness of the local citizens helps her cope while she worries about who would want to hurt her ... and why.
Yancy Gray (the ex-con from the first book) is troubled by an old, abandoned house that no one seems to remember. Eventually, Angela helps Yancy understand why the house calls to him.
Jodi Thomas has the ability to create quirky, charming characters who cause the reader to laugh out loud. They add much to the magic of Crossroads.
