Adelina is a simple missionary's daughter who is pressed into marriage with an unbelieving ruler. Her heathen mother-in-law persecutes her tirelessly and her husband's shallow affection soon cools to unreasonable jealousy, but Adelina never despairs or strays from the path before her.
We love this book for the portrayal of a strong, virtuous young woman who seeks God's will in her life. She perseveres through trials and hardship, prays for those who persecute her, and finds peace and God's reward in the end.
The story of Adelina is full of wonderful lessons in virtue for modern young girls, but that's not all: it's also a true story of how the early Irish church spread the gospel in Germany.
