Dallas Leigh had everything he ever wanted except a son. To accomplish that, he needed a wife. With women in short supply in West Texas, Dallas bargains with Angus McQueen. He'll give McQueen access to the river on his property if he can marry McQueen's daughter, Cordelia.
Cordelia "Dee" McQueen knows that her father sold her to Dallas to ensure water for his cattle. She feels she is getting out from under her father's thumb just to be placed under her new husbands. As Dee and Dallas come to know each other, their ideas about each other change. Dee sees a hard man who has a soft side when it comes to his family. Dallas watches Dee as she comes out of her shell and shows him that she can be a partner in this marriage.
I read this book when it came out in 2011 and enjoyed the story. This time I listened to the audiobook narrated by Eva Kaminsky, and I loved it even more. It's a wonderful story with strong characters. I'm upping my rating for this book. My rating: 5 Stars.Â
