Dr. Remini (long-time historian at the Univ. of Illinois, Chicago) was a USN vet of WWII who changed his career goal from law after reading historical books during his service. He was the expert on the Jacksonian Era of the late 20th C. and here offers a detailed examination of the climatic battle of the War of 1812. His main point is that 'Americans' of various descent came together as the USA fought the powerful British.
His essay on sources is informative and I am glad that he commends earlier historians who spoke with participants. Note that the warriors of the Creek Nation were very fierce--this is why high schools and the like named their teams after Indians!
Index, endnotes, bibliography, and a few illustrations.
And I am taking it to the VA Hospital lobby tomorrow--no one at the old soldiers' home took it up in eight weeks. How sad! But we don't have very many readers there.
