Dear Reader.
It's been a little over three months since I met Rule.
Lily and Rule have escaped from Hell(Dis) and are working with the Secret Service to uncover politicians that are using demon magic. During a night out at the Kennedy Center, a wave of magic causes a musician to shift into a werewolf. In the aftermath, Lily and Rule are escorting him home when another wave shows a demon slashing at people on the street. Rule attempts to subdue the demon and the musician in killed. Meanwhile, Cullen is in Mexico chasing dragons and Cynna is in church confessing her sins.
It had been so long since I read the previous book that I had to refer back to it often. I understand that there were a couple of short stories/novellas that came before this book as well. I enjoy the dark world that the author creates. I felt that I became better acquainted with Lily and Rule. Oh, and Cullen and Cynna. It is wonderful to see the dance between them! Despite Cynna's protests, she is really being set up to be the next Rhej of the Nokolai. (The end of the book pretty much cements that deal!). Grandmother is always a welcome character. She is like an onion that you keep peeling only to discover more depth.
I hope to read the next book fairly soon (and not wait 6 years-geezz!) to catch up with all things Lupi.
A good solid read! 3.5 stars
