I'll start out by admit to writing this particular review at an inopportune moment... being as I'm currently in a rather vindictive mood ( so much so that at one point I actually wished the heroine would meet her maker just so the hero would feel overwhelming guilt for some of his behavior)

However I have to say that there's nothing terribly extraordinary about this particular LH novel. Which In and of itself annoys me, as anyone who goes through the romance forums (here and elsewhere) frequently comes across praise for all things LH... I gather that those opinions are for all LH's books except this one (though I'm still trying to understand the rating this got, which I think was given more due to Linda Howards name than the true quality of the read).

To be blunt, this is romantic suspense's standard fare. Nothing stood out, really. Nothing makes me want to keep it. Nothing grabbed me enough that I just couldn't put it down (I took around 2 weeks to read this one). Honestly, I'm not even sure I'll be able to remember it tomorrow.

That's not to say there's nothing good about it...there's plenty. A good story. A heroine who is intelligent as well as self sufficient. Secondary characters that don't annoy the reader. It's just all rather common. I've come across all those things before, so these in this book, aren't terribly memorable.

The hero however had a tendency to bother me... Though this was published in the mid 90's, his alpha-ness made him appear to be a throwback to the 80's... a period which I lived through but was too young to remember. A period I also don't enjoy romances from as most (if not all) 80's hero's come across as jerks in present day America. He's probably the main reason I'm not overly fond of the book.

How the H and h got together bugs me as well. It just seemed so sudden! and the resolution to their last fight, annoys me as well! (Apparently if talking doesn't solve a problem, sex will).

So am I happy I read it? Yes, as it's another LH I can add to my BIR list. Am I keeping it? I think Not. I don't see the point in keeping a book that ends up being little more than a waste of space.
