I absolutely loved this book. I had never seen a Meg Cabot novel that appealed to me until I read the back of this one. I found the whole concept of being about to find missing children due to a lightning strike outstanding! It was like teen fiction met crime fiction and they sat down and had a meeting. Meg Cabot did an amazing job with both the story line AND the characters. There were a full dull moments I'll admit but they always ended with an excellent turn of events.
Jess is a phenomenal character. She's strong and rebellious yet her lusting after motorcycle riding bad boy Rob gives her a sense of weakness as well. One minute she could be punching someone in the face, the next she's wishing that Rob would just kiss her already. It's a great play with characters that I really enjoyed.
The first part was full of excitement and adventure. However, the second book was a bit harder for me to stay focused on at first. Jess is a camp counselor at a band camp for the gifted in this one and although it didn't really catch my fancy, I stuck with it and am very glad I did. I cannot wait to dive into the second part of the series this evening and see what other troubles Jess can get into.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars! The only thing I didn't like was the band camp concept. Had it not been for that, this book would have easily gotten 5 stars! Maybe the next book will, who knows? Either way I thoroughly enjoyed it and I highly recommend it!
