I was enthralled by the initial setup of this novel. I don't think I'm giving anything away by saying that Audrey, the heroine,is blind(it's mentioned on the back cover blurb). She has learned to function quite well and wants to live independently but her family won't allow her to. I loved the way Robert, the hero, was immediately attracted to her strength of character. Of course he thinks she's very pretty too, but it comes across very strongly that he's not the kind of shallow guy who would fall in love based on looks alone. He really admires her determination and accomplishments, and that made him a great hero. Audrey and Robert enter into a fake engagement just so she can move away from her family home, to a property she inherited from her first husband.
Later on in the book, it became a little tedious and repetitive, that she continued to refuse to marry him, and was too stubborn to accept his help with anything. But based on the two very good lead characters, and the first half of the book, which I literally could not put down, I would rate it as one of Gayle Callen's better books and well worth reading.
