Okay, for starters, this book is funny and a very amusing read. But that didn't keep me from throwing it in the trash. I ordered this book for my second grader, but once she alerted me of its less-than-honorable language and conduct, I read it myself. I assumed (whoops) that since all the little kids were reading it, it'd be harmless. And to some, or many, it is. But I'm working my tail off to raise pure, honorable, sincere, honest kids, and this book would certainly undermine that! The hero of our tale lies regularly and looks to deceive grownups and parents as a matter of habit with no twinge of conscience. Name-calling and judging of other kids happen continually. Sneaky disobedience and manipulative apologies abound. Maybe to many in our culture, that is adorable. To me, it lowers the bar and normalizes base, vile, and worthless behavior. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. We will aim high, and we will try to order our conduct with honesty, integrity, and respect for all people. I'm such a prude! Too bad this talented author wastes his very witty writing in a book that gives the young reader nothing to aspire to. Oh well.
