Not my cup of tea. I've read mystery series placed in the Roman era and enjoyed them. In fact I'm reading another such series now. But the author's use of modern language really turned me off. It was probably his idea of adding humor to the series, but I found it annoying, especially as it was often repetitive. For example, how many Roman citizens called each other "Sunshine," as his protagonist does repeatedly? I thought it interesting that an author who studied Classics at Edinburgh University would do this
So after the first 60 or so pages, I skipped to the end to see how it came out. I knew I couldn't slog through all 366 pages. This is the first in a series of 21 books. I won't be requesting any of them
I gave it one star as there were no zombies or vampires in the pages I read.
