Fictionalized biography of George Mallory, possibly the first man to conquer Mount Everest. Mallory died in the attempt after having been observed making his final assault on the peak, and his body was not discovered for decades, with no clue as to whether he was ascending or descending at the time of his death.
As a novel, it just never really clicked with me, possibly because Archer was never able to adequately explain the "because it is there" mentality that leads mountaineers upward.
