This book has all the joie de vivre that Bemelmans imbued his wonderful children's books about Madeline. Austrian born Bemelmans was apprenticed into the hotel and restaurant trade. This book is a wonderful bunch of anecdotes for the more adult reader but with that wily wisdom and humor you find in Madeline,
