DA Alex Cooper, detectives Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace have their hands full with two seemingly unrelated events - a shipwreck with human cargo and a political scandal. There are tons of characters and even more suspects. This one had me guessing all the way to the end. I was totally surprised and honestly never saw where this was going. Excellent!
I particularly enjoy the interplay between Alex, Mike and Mercer as it reminds me a lot of the relationship between Kay Scarpetta and Marino. I guess when you work closely together for years and years, you develop a special relationship which rivals family dynamics.
