One of the great things about reading J. Maarten Troost's travel stories is that you get all the fun and adventure of going somewhere impossibly uncomfortable and wildly exotic without having to leave home. I lived in Europe and also raised children for years in a different culture and thought I had hard adjustments, since I had also come from Washington, DC. At least I didn't have to rid my system of a slew of intestinal parasites when I got back, and I didn't have to kick a wicked kava habit. He just takes you along with him, and what a ride! Highly recommended top-drawer escape lit!!
