I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I opened this book, but it wasn't what I got! Southern,smart-mouthed, trashy, in your face Casey Jones is a hoot! This woman says what she means and means what she says, and she doesn't take any guff from anyone. I knew she was Southern, but didn't realize this book was going to take place in my backyard! Literally! Casey is an investigator in the Raleigh/Durham NC area which is where I live. It was fun driving down the road with her and actually knowing where I was! She got pretty close to where I actually live, too!
The characters are bold, honest and very colorful. Casey's boss, Bobby D, doesn't apologize for being a big, fat, womanizing type, and his personality is as big as he is. Casey doesn't apologize for sleeping around or drinking too much, and if you don't like it, lump it!
I wish I had read the first book in the series first, but this was enough of a stand-alone book that I wasn't lost, just a bit surprised by her personality and "white-trash" way of thinking. Hey, her words, not mine! Very good book and I'll look for others in the series.
